Alley Cat Oyster BarThe Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND: Alley Cat Oyster Bar

One bite of the lobster roll and you’ll feel like you’re a wicked-crazy Gloucester fisherman pulling in the evening haul. Comes with Old Bay fries. Pair that with a crisp Gruner-Veltliner or cold lager and you’re in heaven.

Blue Point GrilleThe Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND: Blue Point Grille

Ahh, we remember fondly the Blue Point Express, a luncheon trio of perfectly sized portions offering choice of soup, salad and sandwich. But for dinner these days it would be tough to pass up My Blue Point Heaven – lobster tail, shrimp, scallops, lobster mashed potatoes and asparagus. Of course, the namesake menu item – oysters – is always a great bet. Great dishes from a restaurant that has been around more than 20 years downtown.

Don’s Lighthouse Grille David Petkiewicz, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND: Don’s Lighthouse Grille

The restaurant’s “simply prepared” options offer nice, well, simpler alternatives off the menu. And the chefs hit the mark with the right amount of seasoning in many of the seafood entrees. We do miss a chip-and-dip appetizer that, unfortunately, appears off the menu (the inclusion of Maine lobster and crab jazzed up the dip quite a bit). Cod and walleye entrees are well-prepared.

KingfishThe Plain Dealer

AKRON: Kingfish

Oh what’s not to like here? A favorite of ours, we always start with oysters – often a mix from varying regions. So many dishes have never disappointed. We’ll give a nod today to the New Bedford Scallops – served with a flavorful earthy mix of hazelnut sweet potatoes, bacon and brussels sprouts. A unique spin.

The seafood platter – Parillada – shines in this restaurant. Its menu is composed of about 75% seafood dishes. Parillada is an amalgamation of sea bass, lobster, clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, orange roughy and tilapia. The fish are grilled with varying rubs and coated with saffron butter.

Marble Room Steaks and Raw BarThe Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND: Marble Room Steaks and Raw Bar

The ambiance can’t be beat, and it’s an impressive bring-an-out-of-towner spot for sure. Lots of seafood offerings to choose from – and there should be with the words “Raw Bar” in the name. The sushi offerings are plentiful. And if you can’t make up your mind there’s always the seafood tasting with lobster, shrimp, oysters and king crab.

Great menu, and we’ve had some excellent tuna here. This dish with an Asian flair is one of our favorites:

Shanghai Sea Bass – ponzu, ginger, spinach and sticky rice.

Nauti MermaidThe Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND: The Nauti Mermaid

The casual, comfortable feel of the restaurant is a welcoming draw, and the menu has nice twists on classics. Popular sellers include the surf and turf burger (beef and crab cake? we’ll give it a try), king crab legs and – get this – lobster nachos and lobster BLT. Because it’s hard to go wrong adding lobster to anything.
